Surprise Proposal in Old Montreal Clock Tower Pier
Rachel and Kevin live in Washington DC. and they often plans weekend getaways to other cities in North America. For this Montreal trip, Rachel came thinking it will be just a another one of their usual getaways but Kevin, her boyfriend, had other plans. They are to leave Montreal as future husband and wife to be.
I had never met Kevin before the proposal day, he reached out to me after seeing this previous surprise proposal in Square Saint Louis. He wanted to surprise Rachel and have the proposal documented in secret. Kevin has already done his research on possible locations that are unique to Montreal. After arranging some secret phone calls and discussing it together, we settled on the clock tower pier in the old port.
The day of, I was on location and texting Kevin to confirm which path they were taking and make sure I did not miss them. He had already messaged me a photo of him and Rachel and confirmed to me what they were wearing that evening. Just 5 minutes before they were supposed to arrive, it started pouring and I got really worried I would miss them or Rachel would decide not to go for the walk to the Clock Tower anymore. Luckily they found a place to hide from the rain and we waited about 10 minutes until the rain stopped and then continued with our plans . We were also blessed with a beautiful rainbow right before the proposal which made way after to beautiful bleu skies.
Kevin's decision to have the proposal in the old port was strategic because it is a very touristy area and I was easily able to blend in with the tourists despite my big camera and zoom lens. I was able to snap even some photos of them approaching the clock tower without Rachel noticing me.
When talking on the phone before the proposal day, Kevin mentioned that Rachel loved Tulips and it would make her really happy to have a bouquet of flowers with some tulips after the proposal. Unfortunately Summer is not the best season to find them but I was lucky enough to find few red tulips at Kyoto Fleurs that they nicely arranged into a beautiful bouquet.
This was a very emotional moment for both Kevin and Rachel so immediately after the proposal they had some champagne to toast and celebrate. Sipping their champagne, the now engaged couple took some time to just spend together talking about what just happened. Rachel was especially emotional hearing how Kevin secretly arranged to meet her parents and ask their permission to propose to her before their trip. She absolutely had no idea any of this was happening.
Shawn reached out to me to document his surprise proposal during a trip to Montreal. Shawn is from the United states and Molly is from China. They had previously met during a business trip and continued dating long distance for few years. This time, this both happened to be in Montreal for a business trip and Shawn chose this trip to ask her to marry him.
